Dress Can Affect Your Career Change Chances

Like it or not the way you dress can affect a job promotion and can help if you want career change or better job.

There are many places where a code of dress is expected, such as church, the opera, the theatre, better restaurants and many other places. The workplace is just one of many and whether you like it or not, appropriate dress is what can help you keep or get a job. Many Internet sites, books and people that offer advice on interviews and getting that job, will emphasize the importance of nice appropriate dress and the impact it can have when you wear something that stands out from the crowd.

Clothes do make the person. This is one of the old sayings that really does come true. What does it mean? It means that people judge you by the clothes you wear. This is especially true in the workplace, but it is also true for everyday life.

Nowadays many companies have a dress policy in place to keep the appearances at work up. Reasons why companies have dress policies are varied.

Here are couple.

One of the biggest reasons for companies to require nice appropriate dress their office, or at least in the area that the customer will see, it is important that their employees make a good first impression. First impressions are very much guided by what you are wearing, your facial impressions and body posture. If your customer see you working at your desks, it is important that you are dressed appropriately. For most workplaces this means a dress shirt and smart dress pants or polo shirt and casual dress pants. In some instances wearing a suit and tie. It will depend on the company. For women the equivalent style of the clothing will be expected.

Imagine what would happen if a customer came into your company and you wore dirty, spotty, old and ripped clothes. That doesn’t make a good impression, does it? Do you think the customer will want to do business with you? Or if they do will they come back again. Not likely.

Another reason companies and employers would judge your appearance is professionalism. Professionalism in the workplace includes good appropriate dress, being a good employee, doing your job right and being polite and respectful to your boss and colleagues in your workplace.

This doesn’t just apply to those who work in offices. This also to tradesmen, technicians, and shop assistant as well. If you have a clean tidy appearance goes along way.

So before you walk out the door in the morning, check yourself in the mirror and ask “Would I like to do business with a person dressed like that?”

Be the person you would like to deal with.

Have a marvellous day

Considering A Career Change

Have you thought about changing careers or your job change? Are you stuck in a dead end job that you are not enjoying and that isn’t getting you taking you towards your goals? Did you wake up one morning to find yourself wondering why you are in the career/job never wanted and one that is making you unhappy? Many people feel this way. I have been there myself. The good news is that it is never too late to make a fresh start. No matter what your age is or what stage in your career you are at, you can always reinvent yourself to get closer to your dream job. All you have to do is take action and make the jump. This is the hardest bit, but once you have done it the rest gets easier.

The first step in making a career change is deciding exactly what you want to do. But consider it carefully because you don’t want to find yourself in the same situation in a couple of years. Think about the things that you wanted to do when you were a child or when first entered the working world. What was your dream job then? What career field was your passion? Is it still what you want to be doing today? Could you turn one of your hobbies or interests into a career? Discover your dream, and then start building your goals around it. If you can manage to build a career around your passion work will all way be enjoyable.

Once you know what you want to do, the time comes to start researching it. How do most people get started in that field? Will you need to start your own business, or are there companies out there already doing what you want to do? What kinds of entry-level positions are available? Will you be able to do this in your town, or would moving to another city mean more opportunities for you? Before you make the change, research your job options carefully. You may need to plan financially for the step you are about to take, so make sure you are thorough doing your homework. Talking to people who are already working in the field/career you want to enter can be great way to get actionable advice because they have been there.

When you know what kind of experience you will need to get started in the field of your dreams, think about the experience you have had in the past, and what you have done that matches up. This can mean either work related experience or things you have done as a hobby or class you have taken in school. Be creative here – you may have experience you don’t even realize you have. For instance, if you want to open a bakery, and you are always in charge of the bake sale at your child’s school, these count as experience. There may even be thing you do in your current job that will cross over. Comb through your history and pick out all of the things you have done that will count in your new career.

Last but not least, you have to start creating a new image to present to the working world. Start over with a brand new resume, this time highlighting the experience you have that is relevant to your new career goals. Work on an outstanding cover letter that explains your passion and why you want this career change. If you are starting your own business, work on building a website and creating a brand you can be proud of. The sooner you start living your new career, the sooner your dream job will fall into place.

So don’t wait, take action NOW! Your dream job or new career is waiting for you.

Have a wonderful week
